2012 Spring Conference
MATHWEST is hosting a full day conference on April 27th to be held at The Delaney House in Holyoke. This year’s theme, “The Language of Mathematics,” establishes the importance of good communication skills. Mathematical language skills include the abilities to read with comprehension, to express mathematical thoughts clearly, to reason logically, and to recognize and employ common patterns of mathematical thought. It is also important to incorporate the use of multiple representations in order to communicate the mathematics most effectively. For more information click here.
AP Calculus & AP Statistics Practice Exam 2012
On Saturday, March 31st, well over 175 students in Western Massachusetts will take the AP Calculus and Statistics released exams to prepare for the actual tests by the College Board in May. The session will allow students to take either of the newly released 2008 AP Calculus or the 2007 AP Statistics exams in an appropriate and timed atmosphere. Students will start the exam with the open response problems, followed by the multiple-choice sections. This is done to allow time for the instructors to grade the open response problems while the multiple-choice sections are administered. Following the exam, lunch will be served. Before students leave, they will receive their graded test, a score, and a complete answer key. Cost is $15, and a registration form must be received for each student by Friday, March 16th. In case of inclement weather, the snow date is April 7th.

Not only do you receive free membership, you have the opportunity to expand your resume, make professional connections, and help organize current mathematics professional development. In addition, conference fees are waived for chairing a conference subcommittee and certain officer positions receive a stipend.
